The attorneys and social workers of the Center for Law and Social Work provide legal and social work services to families with adoption law, foster care, and other family-related issues and challenges. Providing support to and working with private and government agencies is one way we help Chicago-area families.
We Support Agencies That Help Families with Family Issues and Adoption Law.
Many of our clients have legal and social work needs that can be met by various agencies, including:
- The Center for Law and Social Work
- The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services
- The Illinois Department of Aging
- Illness and survivor support groups
- Adoption and post adoption parent support groups
- Child welfare centers and government agencies
- Mental health centers
We work with individuals and families every day and know the problems families currently face. We offer training and education services to agencies, updating them on the challenges that families are working to solve and on the solutions that other agencies are now providing.
For example, many agencies assist adoptive and other families to deal with confusing and contentious situations when an adoptive parent dies or has become incapacitated. We work to inform agencies that we now offer backup plan services so that parents can arrange for the continued care of their children after the parents' death or medical issue. This type of planning and legal documentation can be more binding than a will and offers peace of mind to the parents and a smoother transition for the children.
We also work with individuals and families to inform them of the services available to them through other agencies, and to connect them to programs that can provide the help they need. Agency offerings include ongoing counseling, financial assistance, and medical care.
