Chicago, Illinois,

The Center for Law and Social Work provides legal and social services assistance to families, practitioners, and agencies in the Chicago area on a sliding fee scale and in a non-profit environment. We have extensive experience in family law and social work. If you are adopting a child or have questions regarding foster care, guardianship, or other family matters, we can assist or represent you with skill and compassion.

We Have the Experience and Background to Help with Your Adoption or Family Legal and Social Work Questions.

We have developed extensive backgrounds in social work and family law to serve the needs of Chicago's families. Our social workers are members of the Illinois and National Association of Social Workers, and our attorneys' backgrounds include:

  • Past chairs of the Chicago Bar Association's Adoption Law Committee
  • Editorship and authorship of chapters in the Adoption Law Manual
  • Guardian Ad Litem appointed to represent children in adoption court
  • A master's degree in social work
  • A license in clinical social work
  • Experience as a family therapist
  • Training as a family and child welfare mediator
  • Former Guardianship Administrator, Regional Counsel, and child welfare supervisor for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services

Together our social workers hold 35 years of combined experience, and our attorneys have 20 years of combined experience.

We Are Deeply Committed to the Families of the Chicago Area.

We have developed a range of programs to serve Chicago-area families. One is the Family Matters Program, a pilot project with the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services. Through this program, we help parents create a backup plan for the care of their children in the event of death or incapacity. This is a free program.

We also support National Adoption Day, Parents Care and Share, and the Family and Children's AIDS Network's (FCAN) Red Ribbon Trails Camp, which is a statewide family camping program designed specifically for HIV-affected families.
