The Center for Law and Social Work was founded in 2004 to serve the legal and social service needs of families in the Chicago area. Our team of experienced social workers and attorneys works together to assist families who are facing challenges in the areas of adoption, foster care, education, and special needs and other related services. We also work with agencies and practitioners, including psychologists, therapists, and other social workers and lawyers.

Individuals and Families: We provide legal services and representation to families, parents, stepparents, grandparents, and others in a wide range of adoption and foster-care areas. We can assist current adoptive parents in obtaining services and work with short-term and standby guardianships, re-adoption, step adoption, and international adoption issues. We also arrange pre- and post-adoption services, assessments, referrals, adoption mediation, and counseling.
Practitioners: We work with many practitioners, including other social workers and lawyers, as well as therapists, counselors, teachers, and psychologists, to keep them updated on laws, government procedures, government and private programs, and other options available to families. We work individually or as an attorney/social worker team to train and educate foster parent and adoptive parent groups and grandparent groups.
Agencies: We work with many private and government agencies to support their services, connect clients with available support, and provide training. Agencies include adoption, child welfare, adoption mediation, and mental health centers; the Department of Family Services; the Illinois Department of Aging; illness and survivor support groups; and other legal clinics.
